The World Heritage-listed, K’gari (formerly known as Fraser Island) is the world’s largest sand island. Translated to paradise by the Traditional Owners of the land, the Butchulla people, K’gari is just a 40 minute ferry ride from Hervey Bay.
K’gari is well known for it’s ancient sand dunes and long stretches of stunning beaches, crystal clear freshwater lakes and creeks, lush rainforests, unique wildlife experiences, native flora and fauna.
Some of the sites to see include 75 Mile Beach, Eli Creek, Champagne Pools, Lake McKenzie, Lake Wabby, Maheno Shipwreck, The Cathedrals, Platypus Bay, Moon Point and Wathumba Creek.
There are a number of eco-adventures to enjoy on the island as well as guided or self-drive tours for which a 4WD vehicle is essential and can be hired on K’gari, or in Hervey Bay and taken over on the barge.
